During a recent trip to Alaska we caught sight of the Sam Taalak arriving at Port of Seward with a load of equipment.

Because thawing rivers like to collect things along their paths, many Alaskan rivers have no piers.  So what do you do when your job involves shipping cargo up these uncharted waterways?  If you're smart enough to choose Diversified Marine as your builder, you get not only a great vessel to work with, you get a built-in pier to go with it, rugged enough to stand up to the kinds of abuse the North has to dish out.

Diversified Marine, Inc. built two sister landing craft for Qayaq Marine Transportation of Alaska during 1997 and 1998.  The Sam M Taalak and the Greta S Akpik.

These landing craft were put into hard service in Alaska.  The vessels were not only the quality to hold up under this kind of use, but they have been dependable, serviceable vessels.  The Sam M Taalak was later converted to deploy Yokahama fenders for Chevron tankers in heavy seas.  Although not built for this service it was again a sturdy and reliable vessel for its owners.
